India is hosting the 16th BRICS Health Ministers’ Meeting in Chandigarh, bringing together Health Ministers and senior officials from BRICS countries to strengthen cooperation in health security, digital health, pandemic preparedness, and Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

Key Highlights of the 16th BRICS Health Ministers’ Meeting

  • India is hosting the three-day 16th BRICS Health Ministers’ Meeting in Chandigarh, reaffirming its leadership in promoting cooperation among Global South countries on public health issues.
  • The meeting is guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, reflecting the collective commitment to strengthening global health systems.
  • Discussions will focus on health security, pandemic preparedness, digital health, innovation, access to affordable medicines, mental wellness, tuberculosis control, and traditional, complementary, and integrative medicine.
  • The programme begins with the Senior Officials’ Meeting, followed by the ministerial session chaired by Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J. P. Nadda.
  •     Member countries are expected to deliberate on key global and regional health priorities and consider adopting the 16th BRICS Health Ministers’ Declaration to strengthen future cooperation.
