India-US Javelin Anti-Tank Guided Missile Deal
Why in News?
On 28 August 2026, the Indian Army signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance for procurement of the US-made Javelin anti-tank guided missile system through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) route. The agreement formalises a long-discussed acquisition and is intended to strengthen portable anti-armour capability. US statements also highlighted future opportunities for defence-industry cooperation, but this should not be confused with an already-finalised joint-production arrangement.

Amaravati Quantum & AI University Campus
Why in News?
The Andhra Pradesh government has approved a dedicated Quantum and Artificial Intelligence campus in Amaravati to be developed by the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) under MeitY. The project is estimated at Rs 730.7 crore over five years on about 8.5 acres, with academic and advanced skill programmes expected to begin from September 2026 at a temporary facility while the permanent campus is developed. Institutionally, it is a specialised campus within the NIELIT Deemed-to-be University ecosystem rather than a separate standalone university.

18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi
Why in News?
India will host the 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, on 12-13 September 2026. India’s chairship theme is “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”. The summit will bring together leaders of member countries, partner countries and outreach invitees. The event is especially significant because 2026 marks twenty years since BRICS emerged as a political grouping and India is chairing it for the fourth time.

Vinchhiwadi Bio-CNG Plant: The Dairy-to-Energy Model
Why in News?
Suzuki, through its Indian R&D subsidiary, inaugurated the Banas Suzuki Biogas Plant at Vinchhiwadi in Banaskantha, Gujarat, on 26 August 2026 in partnership with Banas Dairy and the National Dairy Development Board ecosystem. The plant can handle up to about 100 tonnes of cattle dung per day and is designed to produce compressed biogas for CNG vehicles along with organic fertiliser. It is part of a larger plan for multiple dung-based biogas plants in Gujarat.

Samarthak: Indian Navy’s First Indigenous Multi-Purpose Vessel
Why in News?
Samarthak, the first Multi-Purpose Vessel built by Larsen & Toubro at Kattupalli, was delivered to the Indian Navy on 27 August 2026. The vessel contains over 75% indigenous content and has been conceived primarily as a versatile trial and evaluation platform. It can also undertake maritime surveillance and reconnaissance, offshore patrolling and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) missions when required.
