Why in the News ?
The Uttarakhand government has notified rules granting 10% horizontal reservation in Group C uniformed services for ex-Agniveers, permanent residents of the state. They will also receive age relaxation and exemption from physical efficiency tests, ensuring greater job opportunities for retired Agniveers.
Key Features of Uttarakhand’s Agniveer Reservation Rules 2025:
- Issued by: Department of Personnel and Vigilance, Uttarakhand.
- Reservation: 10% horizontal quota in Group C uniformed services for ex-Agniveers who are permanent residents of Uttarakhand.
- Eligible Posts Include:
○ Police Constable (Civil/ PAC/ Sub-Inspector)
○ Fireman, Second Officer (Fire Services)
○ Jail Guard, Deputy Jailer
○ Forest Guard, Forest Ranger
○ Excise Constable, Enforcement Constable
○ Secretariat Guard
- Exemptions & Relaxations:
○ Age relaxation equal to total service rendered as Agniveer.
○ Exemption from Physical Efficiency Test (PET) if discharge certificate is verified.
- Cabinet Approval: Decision approved on August 13, 2025.

Understanding Agnipath Scheme & Agniveers :● Agnipath Scheme (2022): Central government scheme for short-term recruitment into Army, Navy, Air Force. ● Agniveers: Soldiers recruited under this scheme serve for 4 years, after which 25% are retained and the rest are discharged with a Seva Nidhi package and skill certification. ● Horizontal Reservation: A reservation that cuts across all categories (SC/ST/OBC/General), ensuring a certain group (here, ex-Agniveers) gets representation in each category. ● Significance: Helps provide post-service career security, enhances employability, and encourages youth to join the scheme. |
