Why in the News?
At the 50th PRAGATI meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed major infrastructure and education initiatives, highlighting how the PRAGATI platform has accelerated projects worth over ₹85 lakh crore and strengthened outcome-oriented governance.

PRAGATI and the Reform–Perform–Transform Framework:
- Chairing the 50th meeting of PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation), the Prime Minister reiterated the governance mantra of “Reform, Perform and Transform.”
- Reform, according to PM Modi, must focus on shifting from procedural rigidity to solution-oriented governance, simplifying systems for Ease of Doing Business and Ease of Living.
- Perform implies equal emphasis on time, cost, and quality, ensuring projects deliver efficiently without delays or cost overruns.
- Transform aims at creating measurable impact on citizens’ lives, ensuring governance outcomes are visible and sustainable.
- PM Modi emphasized the use of technology across the entire project life cycle, from planning and monitoring to execution and evaluation, including the implementation of a digital KYC process for improved efficiency.
Infrastructure Review and Education Focus
- During the meeting, PM Modi reviewed five major infrastructure projects spanning roads, railways, power, water resources, and coal sectors.
- These projects cover five states with a cumulative investment exceeding ₹40,000 crore, highlighting PRAGATI’s role in high-value coordination.
- The Prime Minister also reviewed the PM SHRI (PM Schools for Rising India) scheme, emphasising that it should serve as a national benchmark for future-ready education and transform public institutions.
- He emphasized that PM SHRI must prioritize learning outcomes and holistic development, rather than remaining infrastructure-centric.
- Chief Secretaries were directed to closely monitor PM SHRI schools, ensuring they become role models for other state-run institutions.
