The Cholagangam tank, developed by Rajendra Chola, is a massive water reservoir near Gangaikonda Cholapuram. The tank supported irrigation of 1,374 acres and symbolizes the empire’s administrative and engineering prowess. The Chola dynasty greatly promoted Shaivism and Tamil culture, with patronage to the 63 Nayanmars (saint-poets). The temple served as a center for devotion and governance for over 250 years. |
