Key Highlights of the Commissioning:
- Ceremony held at Naval Base, Visakhapatnam.
- First-ever dual commissioning of frontline surface combatants built at different shipyards.
- Both frigates designed with enhanced stealth features, weapons, and sensor systems.
- Capable of executing full spectrum maritime missions in Blue Water operations (high seas).

Understanding Stealth Frigates : |
● Frigates: Warships that are versatile surface combatants, usually equipped for anti-air, anti-surface, and anti-submarine warfare.
● Stealth Technology: Designed to reduce radar cross-section, making vessels less detectable.
● Blue Water Navy: Refers to naval forces capable of operating in deep oceans across global waters, beyond territorial seas.
● India’s Naval Modernisation:
○ Project 17A frigates (like Udaygiri, Himgiri) form the backbone of India’s stealth warship programme.
○ Other platforms: INS Vikrant (indigenous aircraft carrier), Scorpene-class submarines, and upcoming destroyers.
● Strategic Significance: Boosts India’s role as net security provider in the Indo-Pacific.
