ICMR’s SHINE Program to Inspire Future Scientists
Why in the News ?
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), in collaboration with the Department of Health Research, launched the SHINE program to encourage school students towards health and biomedical research, aiming to nurture innovation and future leaders in science and public health.
Program Overview and Objectives:
- SHINE stands for Science and Health Innovation for the Nextgen Explorers.
- Launched by ICMR and the Department of Health Research in New Delhi.
- Aims to introduce students (Grades 9–12) to health and biomedical research.
- Focuses on igniting curiosity, fostering innovation, and motivating careers in science.
- Seeks to build a future-ready workforce in public health research.
Participation and Activities
- Over 13,000 students from 300 schools participated nationwide.
- Activities included lab visits, poster walks, exhibitions, and film screenings.
- Students interacted with senior scientists for real-world insights.
- Hands-on exposure aimed to enhance practical learning.
- Created a platform for mentorship and guidance in research fields.
