The Government of India is set to launch the Beta Version of Adi Vaani, the country’s first AI-powered translation tool for tribal languages. Tribal Languages in India:
– India has over 700 tribal communities, speaking 350+ tribal dialects.
– Some major tribal languages: Santhali, Gondi, Ho, Mundari, Bhili, Kui, and Bodo.
– Many are classified as vulnerable or endangered by UNESCO due to linguistic erosion.
Constitutional Safeguards for Tribals:
Fifth & Sixth Schedule – special provisions for Scheduled Areas and Tribal Areas.
Article 29 & 350A – protection of minority languages and right to mother tongue education.
Eighth Schedule – includes Santhali, Bodo, and others to preserve linguistic diversity.
