Aunta–Simaria Ganga Bridge Project to Boost Bihar Connectivity
Why in the News ?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Aunta–Simaria Project in Gaya, Bihar on 22nd August 2025. The nearly 2-km-long Ganga bridge will improve connectivity between Mokama (Patna District) and Begusarai, reducing travel distance for heavy vehicles by almost 100 km.

Project Details & Key Features:
● The project includes a 2-km-long parallel bridge constructed alongside the old Rajendra Setu (rail-cum-road bridge).
● Implemented by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to ease traffic congestion.
● Designed to support heavy vehicle movement with better load capacity than the old bridge.
● The project aims to reduce fuel consumption and vehicle operation costs, while improving road safety.
● Travel time between North Bihar and South Bihar will be significantly cut down.
● Foundation stone was laid in 2017 by PM Modi, highlighting its long-term importance for regional development.
Economic & Strategic Importance
● Provides direct connectivity between Mokama (Patna District) and Begusarai, improving trade and mobility.
● Reduces the extra 100 km detour heavy vehicles had to take due to congestion at Rajendra Setu.
● Will boost the industrial belt of Begusarai, often called the “Manchester of Bihar,” by facilitating logistics.
● Enhances supply chain efficiency for agricultural produce, petroleum, and fertilizer industries.
● Contributes to economic integration of North and South Bihar, fostering inclusive development.
● Expected to enhance regional employment opportunities by improving accessibility.
