Why in the News ?
President Droupadi Murmu is launching the Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana, an expanded version of the Ladli Scheme, aimed at enhancing financial support for girl children. The scheme targets low-income families and seeks to promote education, dignity, and empowerment of daughters.

Launch and Key Features of the Scheme:
- President Droupadi Murmu will launch the scheme at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi.
- The existing Ladli Scheme has been restructured into the Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana.
- Earlier, ₹11,000 was deposited for institutional births and ₹10,000 for home births.
- Additional ₹5,000 installments were provided at key educational milestones — admission to Classes I, VI, IX, passing Class X, and admission to Class XII.
- Under the revamped scheme, both financial assistance and long-term vision have been significantly enhanced.
Eligibility and Objective of the Initiative
- The scheme is applicable to families with an annual income not exceeding ₹1.2 lakh.
- Beneficiary families must have been residing in Delhi for at least three years.
- The girl child must be born in Delhi to qualify.
- The initiative aims to reduce gender disparities, encourage institutional births, and ensure continuity in education.
- It aligns with the broader vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to place daughters at the centre of nation-building and self-reliance.
