NHAI Sets Guinness Records on Economic Corridor
Why in the News ?
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has created four Guinness World Records during the construction of the Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor, showcasing India’s growing capacity in high-speed highway construction and advanced bituminous paving technology.
Record-Breaking Achievements on the Corridor :
- The Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor (NH-544G)has emerged as a landmark infrastructure project in India’s road sector.
- On January 6, NHAI created two Guinness World Recordsnear Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh.
- The first record was for the longest continuous laying of Bituminous Concrete, covering a 63 km stretch of 3-lane roadway within 24 hours.
- The second record involved the highest quantity of Bituminous Concrete laid continuously, amounting to 10,655 metric tonnes in 24 hours.
- Both achievements were recorded for the first time globallyunder a six-lane National Highway project, underlining engineering precision and project coordination.
Additional Records and Project Highlights
- Building on this momentum, two more Guinness World Recordswere created subsequently on the same corridor.
- One record involved the continuous laying of 57,500 metric tonnes of Bituminous Concrete, setting a new global benchmark.
- Another record was established for the continuous paving of a 52 km-long, 3-lane-wide stretch, demonstrating exceptional construction speed and scale.
- The corridor is a 343 km-long, access-controlled, six-lane highway, designed to support high-speed, safe, and efficient travel.
- Apart from connectivity, the project aims to provide a scenic travel experience, integrating modern road safety and design standards.
- These achievements highlight India’s ability to execute large-scale infrastructure projects within tight timelines.
About Economic Corridors and Highway Infrastructure:● Economic Corridors are high-capacity transport routes aimed at boosting logistics efficiency, regional development, and industrial growth. ● They form a key pillar of India’s Bharatmala Pariyojana, which focuses on improving freight movement and reducing travel time. ● Access-controlled highways enhance road safety by limiting entry points and segregating high-speed traffic. ● Use of Bituminous Concrete ensures durability, smoother riding quality, and lower maintenance costs. ● World-class highway construction strengthens ease of doing business, promotes inter-state trade, and supports inclusive economic development. |
