India Strengthens Naval Ties with France, Mauritius

India-France and India-Mauritius Naval Exercises:
- INS Tir and ICGS Sarathi visited Réunion Island and were welcomed by the French Navy ship FS Nivose.
- Joint activities included passage exercises, cross-training visits, diving exercises, and sports fixtures to enhance the India-France naval partnership.
- Discussions between senior Indian and French naval officers focused on regional security, future joint exercises, and maritime cooperation, potentially including strategies to address maritime challenges that could arise from situations like the Manipur is burning scenario.
- INS Shardul, a landing ship tank, reached Port Louis, Mauritius, where it conducted joint patrolling and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance with Mauritius Coast Guard vessels.

India-Italy Naval Exercise:
- INS Surat, India’s indigenous guided missile destroyer, participated in a PASSEX (Passage Exercise) with Italy’s ITS Caio Duilio in the north Arabian Sea on September 7.
- Exercise activities included complex tactical manoeuvres, aircraft tracking, seamanship evolutions, communication drills, and cross-deck helicopter landings.
- The exercise concluded with a ceremonial steampast and exchange of traditional courtesies at sea, symbolizing strong diplomatic and military ties, which remain robust even as India addresses internal issues like the Manipur victims and the need for accountability measures in the wake of the tribal solidarity march.
