DRDO Tests Indigenous Integrated Air Defence System

The DRDO successfully conducted the maiden flight tests of the Integrated Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS) off the coast of Odisha on Saturday. The test validated India’s multi-layered air defence capability, marking a major boost to national security preparedness.

Details of the Maiden Flight Test:

  • Date & Location: Conducted around 12:30 p.m. on August 23, 2025, at the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, Odisha.

  • System Composition:

    • Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missiles (QRSAM)

    • Very Short Range Air Defence (VSHORADS) missiles

    • High-Power Laser-based Directed Energy Weapon (DEW)

  • Centralised Command: Operated via Command and Control Centre developed by DRDO, ensuring seamless integration of missile, radar, and laser systems.

  • Targets Neutralised:

    • Two high-speed fixed-wing UAVs

    • One multi-copter drone

    • Destroyed at different ranges and altitudes simultaneously.

  • Validation: Range instruments confirmed flawless performance of all systems, including radar, communication, and drone detection components.
