INDIA-SRI LANKA NAVAL EXERCISE SLINEX-25 BEGINS SEA PHASE
Why in the News ?
The sea phase of the India-Sri Lanka Naval Exercise SLINEX-25 commenced off Colombo, featuring joint drills between INS Jyoti, INS Rana, SLNS Vijayabahu, and SLNS Sayura. The exercise aims to enhance maritime cooperation, interoperability, and regional security between the two neighbouring navies.

Highlights of the Sea Phase:
● The twelfth edition of SLINEX-25 entered its sea phase in western waters off Colombo.
● Indian Navy’s fleet tanker INS Jyoti and destroyer INS Rana joined Sri Lankan Navy’s SLNS Vijayabahu and SLNS Sayura.
● Planned drills include:
○ Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) operations
○ Gunnery and screening exercises
○ Vertical replenishment & flashing exercises
○ Fuelling approaches at sea
● These manoeuvres are designed to boost interoperability, coordination, and tactical readiness.
Harbour Phase Activities :
● The harbour phase preceded the sea drills, held at Colombo Port.
● Activities included:
○ Operational briefings on communication and security protocols.
○ Helicopter training with the Sri Lanka Air Force.
○ Professional exchanges and sharing of best practices.
● Cultural and social engagements:
○ Sports competitions and yoga sessions built camaraderie.
○ Schoolchildren visited Indian Navy ships, gaining exposure to naval operations.
● These events strengthened mutual trust, people-to-people ties, and enhanced understanding between the two navies.
