Government Launches PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana
Why in the News ?
The Union Cabinet approved the PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, aimed at improving agricultural productivity, crop diversification, and credit access. The scheme merges 36 existing schemes across 11 departments and will cover 100 districts over six years from 2025-26.

Key Features and Implementation Strategy:
- The PMDDKY was announced in the 2025-26 Union Budget and will run for six years with an annual outlay of ₹24,000 crore.
- It targets 100 districts based on low productivity, low cropping intensity, and low credit disbursement.
- At least one district from each state/UT will be selected based on Net Cropped Area and operational holdings.
- The scheme integrates 36 existing schemes across 11 ministries and includes state schemes and private partnerships.
- Aims to improve irrigation, enhance post-harvest storage at panchayat and block levels, and provide short- and long-term credit.
Government Agricultural Schemes:
- Inspired by the Aspirational District Programme, PMDDKY is India’s first agriculture-specific convergence model.
- The scheme focuses on crop diversification, natural/organic farming, and resource conservation (soil and water).
- Planning committees at district, state, and national levels will ensure localised and inclusive implementation.
- District Dhan Dhaanya Samitis will create agriculture plans with participation from progressive farmers.
- The scheme aligns with national goals of self-reliance in agriculture and climate resilience.
| Key Points in Performance Ranking System for PMDDKY Districts :● PMDDKY’s ranking system is inspired by the Aspirational Districts Programme (ADP) launched in 2018. ● It encourages inter-district competition, scheme convergence, and collaborative governance. ● Districts will be ranked monthly based on 117 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). ● KPIs include metrics from agriculture, water resources, credit, infrastructure, and skill development. ● Rankings aim to boost accountability, transparency, and real-time monitoring. ● A centralised digital dashboard will track progress for each district. ● NITI Aayog will provide technical guidance, monitor outcomes, and support capacity-building. ● Rankings will be used to reward best performers and improve lagging regions. ● The model aims to replicate ADP’s success in transforming underperforming agricultural districts. Key Flagship Agricultural Schemes:● PM-KISAN: ₹6,000 annually to small and marginal farmers. ● PMFBY: Provides crop insurance against natural calamities. ● PMKSY: Promotes efficient irrigation and water use. ● Soil Health Card Scheme: Encourages balanced fertiliser use. ● e-NAM: Creates a unified national market for agricultural produce. |
