At (Karnataka) government-run Integrated Counselling and Testing Centres (ICTC) acute shortage of the third-level HIV testing kits — AIDS SCAN, (a rapid Trispot test) — for the last two months.
Why this test is important?
Without the third test, HIV diagnosis of symptomatic individuals is incomplete.
The National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) follows the Strategy III for confirmation of HIV diagnosis of symptomatic individuals and Strategy II (B) for confirmation of HIV diagnosis in symptomatic individuals.
